The hardware under the Wii U’s hood has been kept under wraps since Nintendo unveiled the console this past June. Speaking to Develop Vigil Game’s Marvin Donald says that the Wii U graphical prowess is on par with what we have experienced with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
“So far the [Wii U] hardware’s been on par with what we have with the current generations” said Donald to Develop.
This past January final development kits for the Wii U were said to be in the hands of third party developers. The alpha versions of the kit, which shipped in May 2011, contained an under clocked version of AMD’s 4770 graphics chipset. For comparison AMD recently released their 7xxx series of Radeon HD graphics hardware. Despite Nintendo’s silence the Wii U is also rumored to contain 1.5GBs of ram, 3 times the amount available on competing platforms.
The Wii U is expected to be re-unveiled at this June’s Electronic Entertainment Expo and could be released to retail during the 2012 Christmas season.
