The Dark Knight swoops his way onto the brand new Xbox One & PlayStation 4 this Fall with the release of Batman: Arkham Knight. Billed as the final chapter in RockSteady’s long running Arkham series – following 2009’s Arkham Asylum and 2011’s Arkham City – this brand new title will finally allow players stop baddies while cruising through Gotham City in the bat-mobile. Prior games featured the signature car but Knight marks the first time that players will actually be able to get behind the wheel. Aside from the reveal of the lead platform we also know more about the game’s plot and mechanics.

With the Jokers demise in Arkham City who is left to fill the void left by the iconic clown? Enter none other than the Scarecrow, one of the most requested villains. The masked master of fear is joined by Harley Quinn, Two-Face and the Riddler, all villains that have pestered Batman in previous games and will no doubt be formidable foes this go around. A new villain, called the Arkham Knight has been described as militarized version of Batman, complete with the Arkham Logo on his suit.

With a new generation of consoles comes the chance for RockSteady to build upon the formula introduced in Asylum. Improvements to the existing mechanics, aside from the ability to drive the Bat-mobile include to option to quickly many of Batman’s gadgets mid air. Batman is also able to take down multiple enemies at once using a move called the ‘fear takedown’.

In terms of the game’s plot we know that Knight’s events will take place approximately one year after Arkham City. With crime levels reaching all time lows the Gotham PD find themselves overwhelmed when Scarecrow unleashes a new version of his fear toxin. With all of the civilians evacuated there’s nothing standing between Batman and a city full of goons. Hopefully there are tons of baddies to beat up, those combo meters aren’t going to fill themselves up.

Check out the first trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight below. The game currently has a release date of October 14th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
