Snake is back in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and this time things are going to be shaken up just a little bit. During their pre-E3 live stream Konami featured a brand new four minute segment on the latest entry in the series with series creator Hideo Kojima, not only did he share a little bit about his new vision, but also revealed the new voice actor for Snake (a.k.a Big Boss), Kiefer Southerland.

Sutherland was rumored to be the new voice for Snake for weeks now, with the publisher teasing via social media for the last week “Who will be the voice of Snake?”. While long time fans, such as myself, maybe be sad that long time Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter isn’t reprising his role. Konami is using facial motion capture technologies which allow Sutherland to not only provide Snake’s voice but also his facial movements. Hopefully all of this brings some new life into one gaming’s longest lasting icons.

Other details include the fact that Kojima is planning to make the dialogue a little more approachable. Gone will be long winded mentions of nanomachines, and character’s stating the other’s obvious emotions that should be conveyed through facial movements and tone of voice.

MGS V: The Phantom Pain is expected to be released sometime during 2014 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. Check out a video from Konami’s E3 presentation below.
