March 2018 PS Plus Games, PS3 and Vita Service Ending In 2019

Posted on March 1, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

March 2018’s PlayStation Plus lineup of “free games” comes out swinging with two Sony exclusive titles for the PlayStation 4. Insomniac’a Rachel & Clank movie tie in title will be on offer until the end of this month through the PlayStation Store – if you missed the latest Robot / Lombax platforms, here is your chance. Also on PS4 is From Software’s brutally difficult but rewarding and critically acclaimed Bloodbourn. If you’re bummed that the online servers for Demon Souls were turned off last week – here’s a newer game from the same developers!

PS4 owners will actually receive 5 titles this month as Comcept’s sadly disappointing Mighty Number 9 is available on both PS3 and PS4. Indie titles Claire Extended Cut and Bombing Busters will get free releases on the PlayStation Vita and PS4 as well.

Speaking of Sony’s older systems – support for the two free PS3 and Vita titles per month will be coming to an end in 12 months time. After February 2019 free titles for PS3 and Vita will no longer be offered. Games that have already been added to your library from the previous years will of course still be available

I’m sad to see support for the PS3 and Vita go from PS+. Not only did it provide games to owners of those platforms who maybe haven’t transitioned to PS4 but also meant that it was common for an extra game or two to be available on Sony’s latest home console. Sony has confirmed that no additional PS plus benefits will take the place of the 4 games per month that they are removing. Here’s hoping they don’t decide to turn off the PS3 or Vita shop servers any time soon because I know I have way more games on both devices than will ever fit on a memory card.

Regarding the changes to the service Sony had this statement:

“We also have an important service update. Starting next year on March 8, 2019, the PS Plus monthly games lineup will focus on PS4 titles and no longer include PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita titles. This won’t affect any games you’ve already downloaded, or will download, prior to March 8, 2019. Those games will still be part of your PS Plus games library as long as you remain a member. Your game saves and other benefits of PS Plus will also remain the same – the only change is that no new PS3 and PS Vita games will be added to the PS Plus monthly games lineup beyond March 8, 2019.”
