Nintendo announced today that as of 10:00 pm PST on November 7th, the Miiverse service will be discontinued.

At that time gamers will no longer be able to access Miiverse from the Wii U console, Nintendo 3DS, or from an internet browser on PCs or smart devices. All Miiverse services will become unavailable, such as viewing or making posts, and messaging with friends.

For a limited time, however, you’ll be able to request a download of all the posts you’ve made up to the day of the closure.

To find out more about this service or to make a download request, click on the “Information on Downloading your Post History” button at the top of the Miiverse website. Please note: to use this download service, you will need to have a Nintendo Account linked with your Nintendo Network ID, and must make the download request before the Miiverse service ends.

The end of the service was expected considering that the Nintendo Switch does not use the social media platform. But while that is true it’s a shame that Nintendo is abandoning the platform

I for one used Miiverse as a way to take screen shots from my game to share not only on Miiverse but also on other social media.

Recent games do allow the ability to take screen captures which can be shared via the mobile browser but this functionality is clunky as compared to Miiverse.

I, for one, am saddened by the announcement.
