It’s almost time. Square Enix’s completely remade classic role-playing game Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on Sepember 16th.

This renewed classic has been completely remade with many hours of new content. Here’s the plot of the game.

In the beginning, there was only one island. For as long as anyone could remember, the tiny island of Estard was all alone in the world—the sole speck of land in an endless blue ocean. That all changed, though, when two young adventurers, Auster and Kiefer, stumbled upon a mysterious shrine and learned there were many new lands to discover.

To reach these undiscovered islands, they’ll have to travel around the world to collect scattered tablet fragments, then reassemble them to activate more portals to the past. Exploring these exciting and often dangerous new worlds won’t be easy. Luckily, our heroes aren’t alone on their quest.

The game has been completely remastered for Nintendo 3DS. Completely remade to take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS’s capabilities, the new Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past game features all-new artwork including 3D character models, new and improved localization, a “story summary” feature to help players quickly get back into the game, and much, much more.

The game features StreetPass which will allow players to swap Traveller’s Tablets to access special dungeons and items. Through online distributions, players can encounter new monsters, explore new dungeons and even obtain unique items.

Anyone who digitally pre-orders the game in the Nintendo eShop before it launches September 15 exclusively on Nintendo 3DS will receive a free Dragon Quest VII menu theme. The game retails for $49.99 CAD.
