Microsoft Xbox presser first impressions from a first timer

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Woah, So I just finished up with the Xbox Presser, and although i didnt have as great a set of seats as Rae did (check the twitter and the post before this for pics) I was in section 105 and so I got to a pretty good seat.

My view was pretty great

My view was pretty great

I found myself seated next to some friends we had shared a Lyft over with, and we got to talk a bit pre show. Everyone was looking forward to seeing more Gears 4, more action from the guys at DICE with Battle Field one, and what was up with Re:core, as well as the dozen or so indie titles out there. Personally I was floored to see the Battlefield trailer even it was just cinematic, as well the awesome line up of indie titles that Microsoft has been working on. Take a look at all those indie games that MS had to spotlight. IMG_4974

Overall my first press conference was a HUGE adrenaline rush, the lights, the sound, the people, the games, we got to see so much and I am just so honored that I get to share all of this with you. Please keep it tuned right here for more coverage from E3!

Dead Rising 4 Hopes To Be a Christmas Surprise

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

At Microsoft’s E3 press conference the world got its first look at Capcom Vancouver’s next title in the zombie slaying franchise Dead Rising 4. Of course, this wasn’t the first look per se as several images from the game leaked days ago but it was the first time we saw the title in motion.

As expected protagonist Frank West returns in a seemingly open world version of Willamette Colorado during the christmas season. At the press conference digital snow fell from the sky as the overhead LCD screens showered the crowd with fake white fluff. Scraping together spare parts to customize vehicles, a beloved feature from Dead Rising 3 returns in this new title.

We currently do not know if Dead Rising 4 will be playable on the show-floor but we will find out tomorrow. Dead Rising 4 will hit Xbox One and Windows PC this christmas.

Killing Floor Comes To The World Of VR In A New Release

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Les Major

Killing Floor Incursion

Creating experiences in VR is a difficult task, and a unique one. Seeing what is happening on a TV screen and experiencing it through a pair of goggles are two separate worlds really. As discussed during the E3 2016 PC show even something like gun recoil needs to be rethought for VR. It needs to feel powerful just the same, but not take the user out of the experience. The game itself cannot control the players head. Instead developers need to find new ways to convey the sorts of motion and also direct the players attention toward the action as it unfolds. That’s what is being thought through for Killing Floor: Incursion.

From what we learned about Killing Floor: Incursion at the conference, it seems they are taking things like this into account. It’s a different experience and something that must be handled with VR in mind. I’ve personally worked with some VR video editing myself, and it is a completely different medium to work with. Seeing developers keeping this in mind is an important thing. We are just scratching the surface of a brand new entertainment platform and so far this is looking really awesome!

Check out the content below from Killing Floor: Incursion’s trailer.

State Of Decay 2 Coming In 2017

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Les Major

Have you played the original State Of Decay? You should really get on that! I quite loved the original and besides some frustrating moments seeing my characters become too weak to continue the fight, it was a great title! Featuring an open world, new characters to take over as your current survivor eventually dies, and safe houses to develop into havens for those who have not yet turned, it’s a great game! Not to mention the expansions that even took the game into a pretty detailed city connected by highway sections to explore.

So we now know that there is even more of that great action to come!

Sea Of Thieves Sails In With Some Gameplay Footage

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Les Major

Last year Rare had a first glance ready for us with the premiere of Sea Of Thieves. Today we were treated to some actual multiplayer gameplay with some selected players experiencing the game for the first time. It’s something else to see Rare’s take on something like Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. This is certainly a game we’ll be following and a genre that has been a ton of fun in the past.

And as noted in the conference… great water!

Gears of War Slices Its Way Onto Xbox One This Fall

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Coliation showed off the world premiere demo for Gears of War 4 at the Microsoft E3 briefing in Los Angeles. Fans of the series will be right at home with the return of the series trademark behind cover gameplay, with some new additions of course – we saw one weapon in particular that looked to be straight out of Unreal Tournament, similar to the ripper it launched devastating blade projectiles at the enemy,

A female protagonist is front and center in this demonstration – from what we know of her story-line she will be attempting to find her mother. The trailer ends with her facing the camera and promising that she will “Burn their fucking hives to the ground”.

Gears of War 4 will be out this Fall for Xbox One & Windows 10 PC.

Titanfall 2’s DLC Will Be Free Dev Confirms

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that DLC for the game’s multiplayer will be free according to a statement given to our fellow games journalists at Game’s Radar.

Details about the exact nature of the post-launch add-ons will be confirmed closer to the game’s October 28th launch date according to EA executive Dough Wightman. The previous Xbox Exclusive Titanfall had 4 DLC expansion packs that eventually shifted to a free model as the player base for the multiplayer only first game dwindled.

Titanfall 2 is playable at EA’s “EA Play” events in Los Angeles, CA and is separate from the E3 conference which is happening all this week.

Quake Champions Will Hopefully Learn From DOOM’s Multiplayer Missteps

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Today at their pre-E3 press conference Bethesda revealed the rumored Quake reboot to the world and this re-introduction to id Software’s 1990s darling is probably not what a lot of people expected – an arena shooter.

Foregoing the series roots as a open ended corridor shooter Quake Champions aims re-live the glory days (or is that gorey days?) of Quake III arena with a focus on arena style combat. Bethesda says that the game will be accessible for players of all skill levels but will also offer options that cater to the series’ hardcore fans such as an unlocked frame-rate and 120hz monitor support.

A Shot From 1999's Quake III Arena

A Shot From 1999’s Quake III Arena

After watching the debut trailer, which you can also enjoy in the embedded trailer below, I can’t help but wonder if Quake Champions can learn from last month’s DOOM. The single player of DOOM was absolutely excellent but the game’s multiplayer was not so well received. Featuring generic announcer voices, an odd lack of ambient music during key moments in firefights, a paltry selection of weapons and over powered demon summons – DOOM’s multiplayer pretty much has written the book on HOW NOT to make an arena shooter in 2016.

Bethesda’s pre-launch marketing for DOOM’s multiplayer hailed it as a return to the arena shooters of old and with the announcement of a season’s pass and a lukewarm reception to the game’s open beta it was a foregone conclusion that they would take another stab at building a lasting multiplayer shooter. They’re promising a focus on e-sports combined with character specific abilities abilities and certainly Blizzard’s Overwatch proves that there is a market for such a product, but with contenders like Paragon up and coming – is it took late for one of the FPS team arena champions to make a return?

We’ll find out more about Bethesda’s plans for Quake Champions at this August’s Quakecon. Until then we can just keep watching the debut trailer over and over….
