Croixleur Sigma Video And Impressions

Posted on April 22, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

During PAX East Fionna and I had a chance to check out Croixleur Sigma on the show floor at the indie megabooth. This stylized anime infused action game includes a number of different modes and during the show I got the chance to play a few solid minutes while talking with some of the developer’s PR reps.

From what I played the survival mode has your character facing off against waves of enemies, stringing along combos builds your character’s score and is the key to making progress in the survival mode. Each face button on the PlayStation four controller corresponds with a different weapon that I was able to assign prior to the beginning of survival mode.

The steam version was released in 2014 and features 2 playable characters, 5 game modes and twenty different weapons. More information on the Windows PC version is available here.

Croixleur Sigma is available for PlayStation on the PlayStation Network. We’ll hopefully have more on this game in the coming weeks.

VRidge Now Supports Steam VR

Posted on April 22, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Riftcat Software’s VRidge platform which allows PC owners to play Oculus Rift enabled games using a Google Cardboard viewer and their smartphone has announced that they’ve released an update to support the Steam VR suite of tools. This latest feature is currently in beta so bugs are to be expected.

This latest beta works with some big games including Elite Dangerous, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and a few others. Find out more at their full blog post here.

Here are the partial notes Riftcat released about the supported games:

  • Euro Truck Simulator 2
    • You need to go to Steam properties of ETS and use beta branch named “Oculus”. Then you need to add -openvr in launch arguments.
  • Elite: Dangerous
    • It works but has issues with blurry text. This problem is common even on real HTC Vive devices. You can read some research here.
    • We recommend using 1920×1080 for stream resolution. Make sure your phone has 1080p display as well.
    • If you are getting black screen, see this post by@adrensnyder.
  • Virtual Desktop / Steam Desktop Theater
    • Those apps have extra lag and capture problems because essentialy everything is captured and rendered twice as many times as native VR games. We are trying to figure out ways to reduce the latency in those cases.
    • We recommend using 1920×1080 for stream resolution. Make sure your phone has 1080p display as well.

Natsume announces River City: Tokyo Rumble for 3DS

Posted on April 22, 2016 by Jason Nason

Natsume announced today that it will bring River City: Tokyo Rumble to the Nintendo 3DS this summer. River City: Tokyo Rumble continues the partnership established last year with Arc System Works, who owns the River City franchise. River City: Tokyo Rumble will also be one of several Natsume titles playable at E3 2016, taking place June 14th – 16th in Los Angeles.

“We know there’s a loyal fanbase of the River City series in North America who have been asking for more of these addictive games to play!” said Hiro Maekawa, President & CEO of Natsume. “Whether you’re a longtime River City fan or new to the series, there’s plenty of side-scrolling action to love.”

Originally launched as Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun SP: Rantou Kyousoukyoku in Japan, the game is part of a long-running series of side-scrolling RPG brawlers, sports games, and more. North Americans were first introduced to the series with River City Ransom on the NES, with an updated take on the game arriving several years later on the Game Boy Advance. Multiple spinoff games, including volleyball and fighting games, have followed.

Advice For Aspiring Games Journalists When Covering Conventions

Posted on April 22, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Covering major gaming conventions takes a lot more effort, equipment and time management skills then the regular posts that we produce on this site.  As I am writing this post I am sitting in the Calgary International Airport waiting for the first leg of my trip to Boston, MA and I thought I might give our readers a bit of insight into what it takes to cover a major convention with thousands of attendees, dozens upon dozens of exhibitors and only one chance to get everything right.Read More
