EA’s Star Wars Battlefront DLC Plans Unveiled

Posted on January 26, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Electronic Arts has finally outlined its plans for downloadable content for Star Wars: Battlefront for three content drops that will arrive between January and March as well as the mysterious Season’s Pass that has until now only been described in quite vague terms.

Players who chose to not invest in the potentially overpriced Season’s Pass will be treated to a free Tatooine map survival map, new outfits for Luke and Han and the ability to create private matches. February’s update will bring a new Hoth map that supports a number of game modes and the Turning Point mode being available on all maps that support Walker Assault. March’s free update will include a new Endor map for Walker Assault.

If you want a detailed breakdown of what’s included in the Season’s Pass head on over to Game Informer, apparently they’ve found everything including a list of included maps & modes.

I honestly think that the amount of content in the free updates will have me coming back to the game at least a few time in the next few months. The Tatooine survival maps sound interesting as well as a new Hoth map should have me rooting for the Rebels for taking down the Empire’s AT-ATs.

Here are all the details as provided by Game Informer:

January Free Content Drop

  • The Tatooine Survival map (called Raider Camp) will support Blast, Droid Run, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs. Villains modes
  • Hoth outfits for Luke and Han (previously unlocked upon completion of the Heroes’ Holiday community mission)
  • The ability to create private matches
  • Daily Challenges and Community Events
  • General weapon and mode balancing tweaks.

Free February Content Drop

  • Survival mission on Hoth (map not disclosed)
  • New Hoth multiplayer map supporting Walker Assault, Supremacy, Fighter Squadron, and Turning Point.
  • Turning Point mode available on all maps that currently support Walker Assault and Supremacy.

Free March Content Drop:

  • New Endor multiplayer map supporting Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point.
  • Tatooine Survival map.

What’s Included In The Season’s Pass?

  • Star Wars Battlefront Outer Rim (March 2016) – Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine
  • Star Wars Battlefront Bespin (Summer 2016) – It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin
  • Star Wars Battlefront Death Star (Fall 2016) – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront.
  • Star Wars Battlefront Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA (Early 2017)

Activision announced today that they have teamed with Nickelodeon and PlatinumGames to create Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, a third-person action game featuring New York City’s crime-fighting Heroes in a Half-Shell. Players will protect The Big Apple from aliens, mutants and the Foot Clan in a single-player campaign or partner with up to three friends in four-player online co-op. Bebop, Rocksteady, Shredder and other iconic bosses will also be yhe game and from what we hear they won’t be easy.

The game promises fast-paced, team-based brawling will challenge gamers for all skill levels. Each Turtle will have a distinctive combat play style and can be customized with a unique set of Ninjutsu moves, combat items and special bonuses.

Video: Rockets Only On High Ground (Halo PC)

Posted on January 26, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Halo 3 High Ground

I just had the most entertaining match of Halo Online that I think I’ve played in the past few days and I just had to cut it out and share it with readers.

High Ground is one of the maps from Halo 3 that will be burned in my mind after playing it so much during the limited beta back in 2007. Basically it’s a sandy, rocky, desert area with some UNSC structures and light vehicles like the mongoose.  Well what happens when you get eight players, through them into Team Slayer with only rocket launchers? A lot of explosions, a lot of laughing… oh and maybe some overturned exploding mongoose!

Check it out – this video is just a straight upload of my gameplay experience. No commentary or editing this time.

Broken Bootlegs- A Link to the Past

Posted on January 26, 2016 by Erika

Broken Bootlegs is a new weekly series covering unlicensed games (also known as bootleg games) for mainly 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. For this week I’ll introduce what bootleg games are, along with a review for A Link to the Past for the Famicom.

Something seems...off

Something seems…off

Sometimes these types of games are an unauthorized port of one game to another system, a ROM hack of existing games that were commercially distributed, or could be original games that use copyright characters without the owners permission. One of the more infamous examples of a bootleg game that’s out there is Somari.Read More

Resident Evil shooter gets a release date: May

Posted on January 26, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Turning the beloved atmospheric third person shooter/adventure game Resident Evil in to a “competitive shooter” is a decision that when it was announced was questioned by both industy and fan alike. Why would we want this? What purpose could this serve? Resident Evil isint even really a shooter! The fans cried. They were confused, this is supposed to be AAA right? I dont get it what could be competitive about a story based game like Resident Evil? Unfortunately for hard core R E fans, the first trailer for the new competitive Resident Evil shooter in the new year simply serves to reinforce most of those questions.

We know its going to be two groups of humans fighting each other, with the infected in between. We know Capcom wants this game to be e-sports, as evidenced by their last trailer  which was made in a sort of shoutcaster-method. If you watched that trailer, the infected didn’t even seem to be part of the game, instead a cover based, almost rainbow six like game seemed to have replaced the classic slow paced game play we are used to in a Resident Evil game. Capcom have their hands full with this game that is for sure. Hit the jump to see the trailer in its full “glory”

Do you think this game can be saved from just being another mediocre cover based team shooter by its unique world and zombies? Personally I am not taking any bets, as at least to me it appears that Capcom have decided to cash in on the generic leaving behind the unique gameplay feel of previous Resident Evil games.

EA Teases Battlefront Announcement For Tomorrow

Posted on January 26, 2016 by Kirk Williford

It looks like Star Wars: Battlefront fans will be receiving some much-welcomed news tomorrow, if a post on the official Battlefront Twitter account is to be believed.

Although not much detail was given aside from a mysterious tweet that read “Prepare for a cold front coming through #StarWarsBattlefront tomorrow… “, a recent community event held by DICE challenged players to play over 500,000 hours as both Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. The community shattered that goal, and with that accomplishment came the suggestion to “look to Hoth to show the fruits of your labor once the January update has been released.”

Given the hint of a cold front in the Tweet, it’s likely that the news coming tomorrow could be directly related to the reward for the community event. DICE has promised more free content in addition to the Force Awakens tie-in Battle of Jakku as well as content coming in the paid Season Pass. Whatever is announced tomorrow, we’re excited to get back into Battlefront with some new toys.
