It’s been exactly one week since the last system update, but the Nintendo 3DS firmware has been updated again. This is a very minor update which updates the 3DS system from version 10.4.0-29 U to version 10.5.0-30U.
There aren’t any big changes in this update, with the only text on the update the very same as last week’s update. The text from Nintendo as follows:
“Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.”
The third series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards may have just been released in Japan but there are already more planned.
On a post on Nintendo Japan’s website the next series of cards has been announced. The next 100 cards will hit stores in Japan on March 24th. As always the cards will come in packs of three for about ¥324. This will bring the series up to 400 cards.
The second series of cards just came out in North America last week with the third series of English cards set for March. While I have yet to complete my first series set I’ve already started collecting the second series.
Epic Games has opened up beta registration for their upcoming third person MOBA title Paragon. The actual beta sign-up process is rather simple: if you have an EPIC account simply login to their site or create a new login on their beta sign-in page. Potential players can also sign up by signing into the Epic launcher if you happen to have that installed.
Paragon will be coming to both PlayStation 4 and Windows PC with a paid early access period beginning in this spring followed by an open beta sometime this summer. It is not known how much Epic plans to charge for the early access period but the game will be free-to-play once it enters open beta.
It appears that Paragon follows the traditional MOBA formula with each team having a core, minions being present on the map and 3 lanes dividing up teams. It’s unique selling points come from its absolutely gorgeous Unreal Engine 4 visuals and the third person camera that isn’t typical of MOBA titles (save for perhaps Smite).
No official system requirements exist yet for Paragon but website Game Debate estimates they’ll be close to this:
Call it yearning for nostalgia, call it reliving the old days but after writing and producing the Halo Online preview that went live today I decided to dust off my Xbox 360 from the back of my entertainment center. After I signed up for a trial for Xbox Live, as it had been at least a year since I last played my Xbox 360 and was ready to see what my favorite multiplayer Halo title had been up too in the past nine years.
What greeted me after logging in was a literal ghost town. Yesterday on a sunny Sunday afternoon only 150 people where playing Halo 3 on Microsoft’s last generation console. The matchmaker couldn’t find me a free for all game, so I wasn’t about to try any of the exotic gametypes like VIP or Juggernaut. Instead I opted for the long time Halo staple, Team Slayer. After waiting 15 minutes to be placed in a match the servers finally found 3 other people and threw us all onto The Pit. We played out the entire match even if finding each other in the expanse of the training complex was a rare occurrence. I think in the end everyone had less than 5 kills before the match ended and I put the console away back in the corner of our living room cabinet.
It’s not surprising that a game that is almost nine years old doesn’t have a strong online community – as time passes people simply move on. There have been three major Halo releases since Bungie’s swansong to Matcher Chief debuted in 2000. 343’s first Halo title on the Xbox 360 had reports of low server populations even a full year before Halo 5 would debut. With less than 2000 people playing that game all the way back in 2014!
Of course almost all of the content to be found in all 4 previous entries in the Halo franchise is accessible on the Xbox One via the Master Chief Collection, but at the time of writing I don’t own one of those.
Goodbye old friend, it’s sad to see the death of a shooter but I send you off with a Salute, at least we got to enjoy one more game together.
Prepare to gather the ragtag group of Squad 7 as they prepare to defend the country of Galloa from the advancing forces of the Empire. As war rages across the Europan continent it will be up to members like Alicia and Welkin will have a secret weapon against the Empire, a prototype tank that will, with your help, defend Gallia’s stores of Ragnite ore.
SEGA originally released Valkyria Chronicles for the PlayStation 3 back in 2009. Last year an upgraded version was made available for Windows PC through Steam. Like the version from last year the PlayStation 4 version will include all previously released DLC. It will also run at 60 frames per seconds at 1080p as well, a significant increase from the original PS3 version. Folks who purchase a first run copy or pre order will also get a limited edition steel case.
Battleborn, the new multiplayer shooter from Gearbox just got some new video content. Deande, and Ghalt are featured in new video content released today. Ghalt wields dual shotguns, has a gap closing hook, and can deploy traps. Deande appears to be much more stealth oriented with a melee attack and a cloak that makes her invisible.
There is a lot of footage in the two new trailers, players new to the game will notice that Gearbox’s trademark cell shaded look is also present in the new team based co-op shooter. The RPG style skill system is also shown, appearing to be a strand of DNA like choices which allow the player to “build” different ways. Mostly what I take away from these two trailers is that this is going to be a very combat oriented game, with fast paced shooting bolstered by objective based game play. Very little is currently know about Gearboxes co-op MOBA style shooter, but a beta earlier this year was well received by those who were able to play.
Battleborn will see a full release in May and there was a beta preview late last year, during which players got a very small taste of the new games world and characters. Hit the jump to see the videos and look out for our review of Battleborn when it releases in May.
Halo 3 was one of the definitive online experiences I got to spend hundred of hours in during the last generation of consoles. Released during my first year of college I can’t recall the number of nights that I spent with friends fragging each other, laughing and getting unfortunately cussed out on Xbox Live until the sun came up. When Microsoft announced that they were going to release a free-to-play FPS based upon the Halo 3 multiplayer suite for PC I was excited – only to find out that the game would be region locked to Russia Only.Read More
