Nintendo Unveils The Miiverse’s Top 3 Games For Wii U / 3DS

Posted on December 20, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo has unveiled the most popular games as measured via traffic on their Miiverse social media website / Wii U application.  This year didn’t feature the two big marquee releases for Wii U – Star Fox: Zero and The Legend of Zelda Wii U, as both of those games got delayed into 2016. However, it was strong year nonetheless for both platforms with releases including the surprise hit Splatoon, the ever inventive Mario Maker, monsters causing mayhem in Monster Hunter 5 on Nintendo 3DS among other great titles.

So which games made the top 3 per platform? I won’t leave you in suspense… according to Nintendo the top 3 choices according to fans on Miiverse where:

Wii U

  1. Splatoon
  2. Super Mario Maker
  3. Xenoblade Chrincles X

3DS

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D
  2. The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes
  3. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Did any of these top six games surprise you? For me, it’s not shocking to see Xenoblade in the top 3 for Wii U even though the game has only been out for under two weeks. Fans have been anticipating its release ever since it was revealed several E3s ago. I also really enjoyed the fresh kicks that Splatoon introduced over the summer – with its focus on team based objectives rather than traditional KDR it was a refreshing take on the established Team Death Match formula.  Now that I think about it, my family ended up purchasing almost all of these games…

Did your favorite Nintendo titles make the cut? Check out the graphics Nintendo shared on Miiverse below:

Xbox Boss: Killer Instinct & Gears Ultimate Coming To PC In Early 2016

Posted on December 20, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Earlier this year at E3 Microsoft announced that both Killer Instinct and Gears of War: Ultimate would be making the jump from the Xbox One to Windows PC. Since then PC gamers have been waiting to find out when they can dig into these currently Xbox One exclusive titles.

One fan in particular, @brycethatoneguy on twitter, took to the social media platform to ask Xbox Boss Phil Spencer exactly when we can expect these games on Windows 10. Spencer’s response? They haven’t announced dates but both games are expected “won’t be too far into 2016”.

Here’s the full tweet from Phil Spencer, which you can use to trace back to the full conversation:

Are you excited for either Gears of War: Ultimate or Killer Instinct on Windows 10? There have been 3 DLC “seasons” of Killer Instinct that have brought a total of 22 combatants into the arena – 9 from Season 1, 9 from Season 2 and currently 4 from Season 3. Gears of War: Ultimate is of course a remastered version of the Xbox 360 2006 original with enhanced graphics and new content.

The Division Xbox One Alpha Gameplay Footage Emerges – Violating NDA

Posted on December 20, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

The Division

The Division is only in Alpha testing but gameplay footage is already leaking out like a sieve. Head to this NeoGAF thread to find where you can watch the videos. They show off the game at a level not seen before–but note that the game remains in development. These videos are a violation of the NDA that we know these players had to sign, so dont expect these videos to last for long.

Its always interesting to watch a video of a game that you one know is not done, and two isisnt supposed to be for general consumption. The game is set for a March lanch and in the videos looks at least a little bit more complete than the last time we saw it. Having suffered a large number of delays and setbacks, its nice to see the game in this close to finished of a state. Its always tough to get a feel for a game from gameplay like this, I can tell they are trying to build a story and that there are guns, and gadgets, but the video gives me no real insight in to the game beyond here is 20 minutes of me running around.

the videos feature the player moving around the environment, utilizing the promised gadgets not much else. I was expecting a mission, some story? most of what i saw in the 20 minutes or so i watched was a player walking around in what appeared to be a desolate environment. We do at least get to seem some of the base building that the game seems to feature, as well as the home base missions that I assume are at the start of the game, where the player is tasked with some missions.

Blood Bowl 2 is getting four new races, free if you already own the game

Posted on December 20, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Blood bowl is already an awesome game, if you like the world of Warhammer 40K, but it seems developer Cyanide is determined to make it even better. They will be releasing four new races for play in their Blood Bowl game (chess for warhammer) for free.

“As long as you own Blood Bowl 2 before the launch of a race DLC,” Cyanide says, “you’ll get that DLC and subsequent DLC for free, from the list of four planned DLCs.” The first of these, the Norse, “should be available at the end of February”, with the other three releasing “on a regular basis”. The four being added are the  Norse, Undead, Nurgle and Necromantic races. Those being axe wielding vikings, Zombies (duuuuhh), agents of the chaos god Nurgle, and another race whom summon undead. These are all Warhammer fantasy races, so most folks who arent heavy in to Warhammer may not recognize them.

Blood Bowl

Personally I love this game, its like chess but with out most of the complex strategy and whole lot more blood and guts. Being good at chess is no guarantee of victory on this battlefield, and honestly its much better to just play to your units abilities. If you are intersted here is IGN’s trailer of what the game plays like.
