SEGA has brought over Ecole Software’s anime dream team fighting mashup Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax to North America for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. The basic concept of this game can be boiled down to “what if we took a bunch of memorable or popular anime characters and allowed them to battle it out!”
With a roster that reads like a “who’s who” of the anime world from the past decade or so there are some memorable favorites like Mikoto Mikasa from A Certain Scientific Railgun or Asuna from Sword Art Online or the absolutely adorable but fearsome Taiga Aisaka from Toradora! Chances are good there is at least one playable character from a series you’ve watched if you’ve even remotely kept tabs on the anime scene!
Fighting Climax doesn’t appear to be your average 2D fighter, I’m pretty sure button mashing won’t win you very many matches. Instead you’ll have to be strategic about managing your resources – every player has access to a number of different attacks and special moves. Sure you’ve got your heavy, medium and light attacks but if you combine them correctly you’ll pull off your characters ultimate attack with a full Climax Gauge. If you’re down and out and feel like you’re going to lose perhaps calling in some help will even the odds – with a full Assist bar players can call in one of a number of different Assist Characters all from different anime series!
Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax offers a number of different modes including Story mode, Arcade mode and the brand new Dream mode.
SEGA was nice enough to provide us with a PlayStation Vita copy of the game for review. Look forward to more coverage soon!
