The holiday season isn’t exactly a hot bed of new video game news but Nintendo doesn’t really take time off. Over Christmas the Big N released a whole slew of classic games from their back catalogue onto the 3DS and Wii U virtual consoles. If you’ve got some downtime between now and the inevitable New Years Day hangover  then why not sink some time into the original Mario Bros?

New Releases On The Wii U Virtual Console

Duck Hunt | Originally Released on NES  | Two Players | $4.99 USD

Train your sights on this 1980’s classic featuring the most annoying dog in video game history. Sure this version doesn’t come with a nifty neon orange light gun for you to aim at your  television but Nintendo has implemented some neat game pad functionality to replace the orange side arm.

New Releases On The Wii U Virtual Console

Mario Party Advance | Originally Released on GBA  | One Player | $6.99 USD

Nintendo’s party themed mini game collection made its way on to the Game Boy Advance back in 2005 and now you can relive your memories of this handheld title on your Wii U. Chose between playing as Mario, Luigi, Peach or Yoshi as you race around the board to collect the most stars.

Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 | Originally Released on GBA | One Player | $7.99 USD

Super Mario World received an enhanced port on the Game Boy Advance back in the early 2000s and now it’s being.. re-ported (?) on to the Wii U in the form of Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 for the Virtual Console. I have very fond memories of the original SNES version of Mario World, it was probably my most played game on that entire generation of consoles and it didn’t cost a dime back in ’92 because it came packed with the system. What a better way to relive one of Mario’s best 2D titles than to play it on your Wii U.
