Nintendo unveiled a special limited edition of the Nintendo 3DS XL today among the several Pokémon related releases. The limited-edition Nintendo 3DS systems come in both blue or red and feature the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal.

The bundle will be released on September 27th!

With the bundle coming out a few weeks prior to the release of the game itself it’s surprising that the special edition 3DS XL doesn’t include a copy of the game. The full retail copies of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be released both in stores and on the eShop on October 12th.

So why doesn’t the bundle come with the game itself?

Fans of the Pokémon games have been anticipating the release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y for quite some time. With that in mind fans have also likely already pre-ordered a copy of the game, making the special edition 3DS not as desirable.

By releasing the limited edition 3DS XL before the game, and without a copy of the game itself, Pokémon fans who alrady have a copy of the game ordered and are looking to upgrade to the XL have a reason to pick it up.

What do you think? Are you looking to upgrade to the new bundle?
