We don’t like things to get stale here at Broken Joysticks and that’s why we’ve rolled out a series of upgrades that allow you, the reader, to share with us what you’re playing and comment on articles in new and exciting ways. These are just the first of a few planned upgrades that will make the site more accessible and enjoyable, that we will be rolling out in the future.

The New Commenting System

We’ve moved our commenting system over to the ever popular Disquss system. This system allows you to use a single login across multiple websites, if you’ve already got a Disquss login from another site it will work here on Broken Joysticks. You can also connect with us using Facebook, twitter and other social media websites. You no longer need a dedicated Broken Joysticks account to join the community.

All discussions are now threaded making them easier to read. You can also cast up and down votes on individual comments and block users as you see fit. For the first time since the site’s launch, we also allow anonymous commenting without the need for any type of registration. If you’d like to comment anonymously all you have to do is provide your e-mail address and you’re good to go!

Note: We’ve ported all existing comments over to disquss. This may take 24 – 48 hours before the old comments show back up on the site.

What Are You Playing? Shoutbox

As gamers were constantly swapping discs and cartridges in and out of our consoles. We’ve added a widget to the sidebar that lets you share your most recent game with the community. Our editors will be updating the shout box with their most recent games in the coming weeks and we invite you to do the same.

Similar to the comment system the shout box does not require registration. If you’re logged in to a WordPress or Facebook account the shout box will pick up on it automatically. If you browse Broken Joysticks anonymously you’ll be simply assigned a guest number. Please remember to keep posts in the shoutbox civil and on-topic. Any offending material will be removed!

Removal of Advertisements

We’ve decided to reduce the presence of ads here Broken Joysticks. For a time, we were running to add units on every page in addition to info links and one unit on the sidebar. We’ve removed the mall with the exception of the info links pop-ups, as we feel that they are the least intrusive of the bunch. We want your reading experience to be a simple and clutter free as possible.

We have even more upgrades planned in the future and we can’t wait to share them with you! If all goes according to plan we will be rolling out new features like the ones you see above every few months.
