ID Software’s landmark FPS Doom 3 will be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 this fall with full trophy/achievement support. The BFG Edition of Doom 3 also packs in the first original doom titles and the Resurrection of Evil expansion packs that was released in 2005.
Achievements and 3D support aren’t the only new features for this edition of Doom 3. Activision has also included an additional 7 act add-on to the campaign titled “the lost missions”. The original Doom 3 multiplayer experience will be ported to Xbox Live & PSN as well, but no solid details were provided at press time as to what improvements have been made.
Update: Activision has released a trailer which we have included after the jump.
Describing the changes that the BFG edition brings, technical wizard and longtime developer Jon Carmack said:
“Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”
Are you interested in Doom 3 BFG Edition? The original Doom 3 was one of my most anticipated games back in 2004, I even remember buying a new computer at that time just to play it. Quake 4 was one of my favorite launch games on the Xbox 360 but that was five years ago. In order to make Doom 3 relevant again major upgrades are going to have to be made to the multiplayer and graphics. If there is one company who can do that, it is id software!
