Tomb Raider Delayed Until Q1 2013

Posted on May 14, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Were you looking forward to getting your hands on the reboot of Tomb Raider this year? You’re going to have to wait a few more months as Crystal Dynamics announced that Tomb Raider will miss its intended Fall 2012 release window. Instead the game will be arriving at some point in the first quarter of 2013.

On the game’s official forums the developer stated that they want to release the best game “of their careers” and need additional time to put some finishing touches on the game.Read More

Australian Branch of GAME Enters Administration

Posted on May 14, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Australian branch of embattled U.K based retailer GAME has entered administration the company confirmed this afternoon. In the short term this means that the company will not be stocking somenew titles such as Blizzard’s upcoming Diablo III. Along with this announcement they also announced that they will be unable to refund customer’s fully paid or partially paid pre-orders.

Entering administration doesn’t mean an immediate end to GAME’s operations downunder. It would be fair to compare the process to bankruptcy protection in the United States. Essentially administration gives GAME a window of time work out agreements with their various creditors.Read More

Virtua Fighter V Final Showdown Debuts on June 5th

Posted on May 14, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sega of America and Sega Europe announced today that the upcoming upgrade to 2007’s Virtua Fighter 5 will be coming to both the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network on June 5th. The game will be priced at $15.99 USD on PSN and 1200 Microsoft points on Xbox Live. This is certainly not a bad deal for a game that would have cost $59.99 just a few years ago.

Final Showdown brings several enhancements first introduced in the Arcade version of Virtual Fighter 5. It also gives console players a chance to check out two brand new characters and a new console specific training mode to help new players adjust to the Virtua Fighter world. A $4.99 DLC pack that adds additional customization options with over 400 in-game objects to help you customize your favorite fighter.

Offspring Fling Released

Posted on May 14, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

I have long hoped that, by the time I successful reproduce, it would be socially acceptable to throw your children about like footballs. This would mostly be for serious reasons, like solving puzzles ( like the New York Times Crossword puzzle), but it would also be great fun for parent and child alike.

Alas, our social mores about offspring flinging are unlikely to change in such a short period of time. Until society advances to accommodate my wishes, Offspring Fling, an aptly titled indie game just released on Steam on Mother’s Day, will have to scratch that itch. You can read more about it and watch a trailer after the jump.

Arma 2: Combined Operations Contest Winners Announced

Posted on May 14, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

We brought in a member of Bohemia Interactive to pick the winners from Friday’s competition. Here is what operative “Korneel” had to say:

I loved the effort and the answers. There were 4 which really caught my eye. Therefore, as a very special exception, I am giving you two extra A2:CO codes to distribute.

My picks are:
Athanasios (Literally the only possible flaw in his plan is the fact that Jarmen Kell, due to his age, might not be flexible enough to imitate the look of a human stomach or a padded human sausage ;-))
Fearpoint (The scarce-vodka-supply-rumour works like a charm!)
Sorophx (You thought of all the angles – We’d gladly assign you to this mission)
Ksim3000 (You’ve mastered the political game!)

Good luck and all the best!

So, you four are our winners. Please send me an email at danielshannon@brokenjoysticks.net to claim your prize. I’ve already received emails from Fearpoint and Ksim about other matters, so I’ll recognize their addresses. However, I’d appreciate it if Athanasisos and Sorophx commented in this article to confirm that they’ve emailed me. We don’t want OPFOR stealing your hard earned Arma2 copies.

Tribes: Ascend | Review

Posted on May 14, 2012 by Andrew Minott

It’s like a classic joust in the days of knights and kings.

You skim across the valley floor at 120 kph. High above you, an airborne ally gets hit in the chest by a microscopic sun, sending bits of his armor showering down, and bits of him… best not think about it. Ahead, a flash of light. You see the reflection half a second before the explosive blue disk hums close enough to your head for you to write your name on it. That Blood Eagle bastard is headed straight for you, claiming this crack of earth as his own.

Your assault rifle bursts to life, only a handful of rounds finding their target. Before you can even reload, you and your target have passed each other. You spin, easing to the right to ramp up from a small mound. Your jetpack ignites, teaming up with your momentum to launch you dozens of feet into the air; your dancing partner has done the same. Two more spinfusor disks buzz by you, one of them hitting what’s left of a tree struggling to grow on the edge of the mountain wall. You can’t get a steady shot while you’re both in mid-air, so you switch to your grenade launcher. His shadow and his speed give away where his landing area probably will be, and roll the dice. His toes barely touch dirt before your grenade throws him against a boulder. His momentum is gone, his jetpack is still recharging, and you reload. You land a little rougher than you’d like, but it doesn’t matter much because you just got ran over from behind by a grav cycle.

Thankfully, the respawn timer keeps you away from the mayhem for only a few seconds.
