Don’t you love putting a brand new in your DVD player or game console only to find that you have to sit through a seemingly never ending series of advertisements? The government warnings surrounding piracy are about to get a lot more annoying as six major studios begin to adopt these new warning with their latest releases.
Official government warnings from the FBI Anti Piracy division and the Home Land Security Investigation department will appear in place of the ubiquitous red “FBI Warning” that has appeared in home media since the days of VHS. Most of the information on these warnings isn’t new; I think we all know that copying a DVD may result in a $250,000 fine. What is new is the second warning which informs viewers that piracy is not a victimless crime, that it hurts the economy.
Do you think that these warnings take things a little too far? We’re now in the post Megaupload world, where the US government has the ability to take control of a domain name with little objection or even a court order.
Let us know your thoughts on these new warnings below, we’ve also included screengrabs of the new warning at the bottom of this article.
